lose weight by walking

Posted by granny on December 30, 2009

The more I see the more I realise that consistency is the key to achieving our goals. As with becoming more flexible, losing weight is all about doing a little bit every day. There are a variety of ideas about how to lose weight fast but I believe of optimum health and well being it is better to work on improving our lifestyles rather than looking for quick fixes.

Consuming more calories than the body uses in a day allows us to put on weight. This is great for body builders and atheletes looking to gain muscle. However not so good for those already over weight.

A simple option open to most people is to go for a walk. I have seen first hand the weight loss that friends have achieved by simply walking to and from work, less than 30 minutes each way. One friend has lost about 15 kg in a year. This could have been more had daily ice creams over the summer month also been limited.

However rather than worrying excessively about calories being taken in, increasing calories burned by the body can help reduce weight.

My own experience has not been one where I have needed to go on a diet to reduce my weight. Conversely I have always found it difficult to retain muscle through weight training.

Taking regular exercise, makes me want to eat healthier foods. For me the key to health is exercise. This has the knock on effect of making me feel better and actually want to eat more nutritious foods.
